The world of Ariane Doliery
Ariane Doliery is a young French illustrator living in the UK. She designed our Dots & Lines autumn/winter set for Sioou.
- Hello Ariane, could you introduce yourself in a few words?
Hi Sioou, I'm Ariane, a graphic designer from Marseille who's been living in London for 3 years. I work full time in a creative agency and also freelance to work on different projects. I work in the field of print and web visual communication, which includes visual identity, illustrations, photography, web design and packaging...
- How did you become an artist?
I've always loved drawing (especially during math classes in high school ^^) and my family supported me a lot by enrolling me in drawing classes and art schools.
- How would you define your artistic style?
I'd say my style is feminine, modern and aesthetic. Whether it's for a poster, a magazine or an illustration, I like it when it's “nice and clean”: having a precise line, a balanced composition and harmonious colors.
- What do you like best about your job?
The fact of being able to “express yourself in a different way”, to convey ideas and emotions on a piece of paper. I love the fact that someone can admire a quick sketch on the corner of a notebook.
- Why did you decide to embark on the Sioou adventure?
I find the Sioou universe innovative and unique, and it's very well thought out to call on artists for a quality and variety of designs.
- What did you like about this collaboration?
The fact that there was a simple, precise brief that allowed me to project myself very quickly into the subject.
- What were your inspirations for this set?
I was inspired by my surroundings, such as the mosaic motifs in the Cathedral de la Major (Marseille), contemporary art exhibitions at the Royal Accademy of Art (London), as well as product design and architecture. I've come to realize that there are so many possibilities in playing with very simple shapes

- Can you sum it up in a few words?
Precious, diamonds, design, lines.
- Do you have any favorite motifs or themes that you like to deal with in your art?
I love everything feminine, vegetal, organic, geometric and textural...
- What are the 3 must-have pieces in your wardrobe?
My three essential pieces are: a Reiss skirt, a silk scarf and a hat.
